Suicide, Bereavement & Parental Separation
Responses of the School Community
An in-school seminar for staff

IAPCE is offering a seminar to school staffs in the area of Suicide, Bereavement and Parental Separation. This seminar is practical and informative as schools shape their responses to these sensitive issues. They have been run in many schools already throughout the country.

IAPCE has been involved in providing resources in this field over the last number of years in particular the publications Suicide, Bereavement and Loss; the recently launched Echoes of Suicide and the school programme by Michael Ryan, Living with Change and Loss

It is the number of requests from individual schools as they attempt to appropriately address this area that have prompted us to offer this particular seminar - some details:

Topics covered:
Change and Loss – realities and challenges
Perspectives on bereavement – towards an understanding
Separation – understanding and appropriate response
Suicide – facts and myths
Suicide: Prevention, Intervention and Postvention – specific strategies
Practical implications for the school – effective actions

Time: A two to three hour session tailored to the school’s needs.

Facilitators: Two IAPCE personnel will facilitate the session. A comprehensive handout pack will be provided.
