Remember back to the day you decided that you wanted to be a teacher. For most of you it was a day filled with hope, promise, vision, belief and a real desire to make a difference. What has happened? If you were asked to compare your original ‘dream’ of being a teacher with the actual experience of teaching what would you say? For fear of discovering that something has gone drastically wrong many would reply with words of conviction ‘I am delighted with the way things are’, ‘I am certainly getting a lot out of my life as a teacher’ or perhaps you are one of those who would venture towards the real truth but mask it in a subtle illusion of ‘it’s certainlydifferent today but we’re doing well, all things considered’.

All too often we hear of school management and staff experiencing the complete opposite; days filled with agendas and tasks that must be complete while the real purpose of being a teacher is getting lost. What about you and your staff?

• Do you wake up in the morning with a clear and great vision of the difference you will make in that day?

• Are you teaching and learning as you go? Is what you’re learning adding to your life and significantly enhancing you personally?

• Do you feel a real and sincere sense of love, respect and community in the staff room?

• How great are the energies of creativity and the innovation flowing throughout your school?

You can reinvent your staff, create a great energy throughout the school and unleash synergies that are waiting to be discovered. Imagine what your school would be like if each of your staff members allowed themselves to tap back into the hope, promise, vision, belief and desire that they were once fuelled by. Can you dare to imagine what your school would be like if your entire staff began to work from a new frame of reference that was absolutely focused on what was great and what was possible?
