Know The Way, a new junior cycle textbook for Religious Education was recently launched by Micheál O’Muircheartaigh and his fellow Kerryman and friend Diarmuid O’Connell in the National Concert Hall, Dublin. Orla Walsh is the primary writer of the text with IAPCE’s own Orla Phillips having responsibility for a major section of the programme writing. Micheál O’Muircheartaigh who had clearly read and enjoyed the textbook prior to the launch stated that he found it to be a new and exciting way to explore religious education. He said that the very title drew him into the text and that each of us have asked people to help us find our way at one time or another’. He felt that ‘Know The Way’ gave us all excellent directions! Micheál further a dded that he was compelled by the way the book related its subject matter to the local community as well as the global community. He spoke eloquently about many of the lessons and stated that he was sure they would shape and broaden the minds of all who would study them. Orla Phillips thanked the team who had supported her work and Orla Walsh spoke about the process by which the identity of the book emerged. She thanked most sincerely all of the Veritas team, Orla Phillips, Maura Hyland and indeed the eloquent Micheál O’Muircheartaigh. Students from Ardee Community school and from Coláiste Bhride in Clondalkin, took part in the launch. Each group brought the audience through a Power point presentation to explain how they enjoy using the textbook. This was an exciting departure for a book launch but Orla Walsh added that the textbook was written for students so it was only right and fitting that they should be present! The launch came to an end when Bryan Glennon and his Gospel choir gave a rousing rendition of ‘Shackles’, a Gospel song explored in Section E of the textbook! More about the text… Know The Way is a new and exciting religious education textbook. It is a resource for the first three years of religious education at post-primary level (a three-in-one text). Know The Way maps the junior certificate religious education syllabus together with the faith formational elements within. It serves all junior cycle students whether they are opting to take the religious education exam or not. The text is published by Veritas.
